Volunteer for Verulamium Bulb Planting in November
We’re looking for volunteers to join us and the Friends of Verulamium Park to plant bulbs near the River Ver in Verulamium Park. There are sessions on Tuesday 11th November and Saturday 15th November. On the Saturday, there’s even a special session for families to come and help plant some wild daffodil bulbs.
Our regular volunteers will be contacted by email but if you would like to help, please choose your morning session(s) and email Andy Gardiner here to say you are coming.
Tuesday 11th November 10am – 12 noon
We’ll be concentrating on planting some of the 1,000 Snake’s-head Fritillary bulbs to begin creating an area which should provide an eye-catching spring spectacle in a year or two. In teams of three, using a spade and peeling back the turf to drop in three or four bulbs will be the main planting method.
Saturday 15th November 10.30am – 12.30pm
We’ll be finishing the Snake’s-head Fritillary bulb planting and planting the Wild Garlic area. There’s a Snowdrop/Bluebell/Wood Anemone mix to go in too.
Saturday 15th November 12.30pm – 2.30pm Family Session There are over 500 Wild Daffodil bulbs to pop in. Why not come along with a trowel and plant 5 or 10 bulbs to make it all a true community effort? To give us a guide to numbers, please let us know via Eventbrite if you are going to come along.

The Environment Agency has completed the main work in the river opposite Westminster Lodge with 180 tonnes of gravel positioned in the stream to help vary the flow; give river insects more places to live and provide suitable spots for Brown Trout to spawn.
There’s still some large woody debris to place in the river to create further flow variations. However, planting bulbs to benefit early spring pollinators and introducing plugs of marginal chalk stream plant species are the finishing touches in this area.
We look forward to seeing you by the Ver!
